Welcome Back

While these many weeks have been filled with great challenges and change, our mission, values, and commitment to you has not, and will not waver.

The safety and health of our members and staff remains our top priority. As we proceed with a phased re-opening, we will follow state and local guidelines to continue our commitment to cleanliness and the community. Carefully follow these guidelines to help keep the facilities and the entire community as safe and healthy as possible.

Member, Staff & Guest Guidelines

To do our part in preventing the spread of COVID in our community and workplace, we are restricting access to this facility for anyone who may have recently been exposed to the virus. As a valued and loyal J member, please take the health and safety of others to heart.  Read the guidelines carefully.

To enter our facilities, members, guests and staff must affirm:

You have not in the last 14 days had any close contact with anyone who is either confirmed or suspected of being infected with COVID, including anyone who was experiencing or displaying any of the known symptoms of COVID; and

You have not in the last month traveled to a restricted area that is under a Level 2, 3, or 4 Travel Advisory according to the U.S. State Department; and

You do not currently experience or display, and you have not in the last 14 days experienced or displayed, any of the following symptoms:

A temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher,

Cough, shortness of breath and/or difficulty breathing,

Loss of smell and/or taste,

Fatigue, muscle aches, chills, shaking, or

Persistent headaches.

If you answered YES to any of the above statements, you may NOT enter the building.

Thank you for your cooperation and your help in keeping our community healthy.

Masks Required

Until COVID subsides or health officials no longer recommend masks, we require that masks be worn on our campus out of an abundance of caution for our staff and our guests’ health. If your health situation dictates that you cannot wear a mask, we invite you to join us when it’s safer for you.

Updated Hours

For the time being, our hours have slightly changed to allow for nightly cleanings.

Entering the J

There are separate entrances for camp, fitness, and preschool. At all entrances, using non-contact thermal scanners, we will take your temperature.

Everyone coming to exercise or swim will be directed to the far end of the parking lot, just past the preschool. Again, there will be signs and staff ensuring you get to the right place.

Social Distancing

We are practicing CDC-recommended safe social distancing throughout the J. We will enforce strict limits on the number of individuals in fitness and the gym, at our pool, and throughout the entire facility. Please do your part in following the guidelines and practicing safe social distancing.

  • If you'd like to make a tax-deductible donation to support to the JCC, click here. Thank you.

What are the dangers COVID-19 may have on children? How do they differ from those of adults?

Please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) page for specific details.

Will the staff at Merage JCC know if a participant has been exposed or contracted COVID-19 and will program close if someone is believed to have been exposed?

Orange County Health Care Agency will be in charge of care and direction for isolation of individuals that have been diagnosed with COVID-19. We will work directly with the OCHCA and take further directions from them if this arises.

Why a new entrance? Why are we not entering through the front doors?

In order to adhere to the various regulatory bodies and keep our campers, members, guests, and staff safe and healthy, we have created separate spaces for fitness, preschool, and camp. Each group has its own entrances, pathways, bathrooms, and access.

Members coming to the J to access aquatics and fitness will be directed to a new entrance at the end of the parking lot on the other side of the preschool -- throughout the summer member access to the J will be limited to the aquatics and the fitness areas. There is no access to Main Street, the theater, courtyard, or any rooms where campers are having their fun

Are you taking temperatures at the J?

Yes, we are adhering to CDC recommendations and taking temperatures. In addition, to enter our facilities, members, guests and staff must affirm:

You have not in the last 14 days had any close contact with anyone who is either confirmed or suspected of being infected with COVID-19, including anyone who was experiencing or displaying any of the known symptoms of COVID-19 (which are listed in item (c) below); and

You have not in the last month traveled to a restricted area that is under a Level 2, 3, or 4 Travel Advisory according to the U.S. State Department (including China, Italy, Iran, and most of Europe); and

You do not currently experience or display, and you have not in the last 14 days experienced or displayed, any of the following symptoms:

• elevated temperature or fever of 100.4 F or higher,
• cough,
• shortness of breath and/or difficulty breathing,
• loss of smell and/or taste,
• fatigue, muscle aches, chills, shaking, or
• persistent headaches.

Are facemasks required?

Yes. Everyone entering the J must wear a facemask, except when engaged in a vigorous workout activity. If you forgot yours, don’t worry, we have you covered.

Members also need to bring their own towels and water bottles to the J.

What happens if I am not allowed to enter the building because of COVID monitoring?

To re-enter the building, you must:

have a temperature below 100.4 for 72-hours without fever reducers (i.e. aspirin, acetaminophen) and be symptom-free;

have had more than 14 days pass since you’ve been in close contact with anyone who is either confirmed or suspected of being infected with COVID, or experienced known symptoms of COVID; and

You have not in the last month traveled to a restricted area that is under a Level 2, 3, or 4 Travel Advisory according to the U.S. State Department (including China, Italy, Iran, and most of Europe)

If you are JCC staff, contact your supervisor immediately.

If you have any questions about why you were turned away or when you will be able to return, please do not hesitate to contact Julie Holdaway, Assistant Executive Director, julieh@jccoc.org
