What should our family do this weekend? I hear this question A LOT—in my own house, walking around the J, and even at our local grocery store. Families have many activities available to them, and at times it can seem like there are TOO many choices. This question and challenge of what to do led our JCC to develop a new summer program for families: Summer Vacay at the J. Taking inspiration from resorts, cruise ships, and our camps, we deliver fun and relaxing experiences for families.

Still, many families have asked me, what is Vacay at the J?

Summer Vacay is four hours of family fun at the pool every Saturday and Sunday. An all-star staff team entertains children inside and outside the pool and leads games, art activities, sports, and make-your-own treats. In the pool there is a tremendous new inflatable obstacle course and our ever-popular water slide. There are opportunities to participate together as a family and time to be with the adults. As a dad, it is a great way to relax with other parents with our children close.

The hours of Summer Vacay are 10 am- 2 pm on Saturdays and 12-4 pm on Sundays. With busy schedules and varying nap times for younger children, you might only have an hour free or may need all-day fun. You can do either. Beware—your children will have so much fun they will not want to leave (speaking from experience)!

Another question I hear is “Do you have to be a member to come to Summer Vacay at the J?” The answer is that everyone is welcome. We want the community overall to experience this program. Every family can check out a weekend here for free! We aim to be the place for families, especially during the summer.

I realize I am biased. I wear many hats, including a J hat and a dad hat. However, as both a parent and a proud member of the J staff, I can enthusiastically answer the question of what our family is doing this weekend is Summer Vacay at the J.
