What is Yom Hashoah?

This is Israel's Holocaust Memorial Day. In Israel the day is observed with a two-minute siren at 10 a.m. which lasts for two minutes. Everything in the country stops for these two minutes of silent devotion. 

 

 

What is Yom Hazikaron?

April 17, 2018 / 5 Iyar, 5778

This is Israel's Memorial Day for those who lost their lives fighting for and defending the State of Israel. Sirens wail for two minutes at 8 p.m. on the night before Yom Hazikaron and at 11 a.m. on the day of the holiday. All places of public entertainment (theaters, nightclubs, bars, etc.) are closed on this solemn day. 

 

 

What is Yom Ha'atzmaut?

April 18, 2018 / 6 Iyar, 5778

This is Israel's Independence Day, which is celebrated immediately following Yom Hazikaron on the 4th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar, which corresponds to the original date of the formal establishment of the State of Israel: May 14, 1948. In Israel this day is celebrated with fireworks, live public performances and partying in the streets.
