The Merage JCC JStage youth theatre program prepares to captivate audiences with their rendition of the timeless classic, Fiddler on the Roof Junior. Fiddler On The Roof Junior is a special adaptation of the classic Broadway musical, which tackles the universal theme of tradition in ways that reach across barriers of race, class, nationality, and religion. The decision to present Fiddler on the Roof takes on added significance in light of the current climate of rising antisemitism. By showcasing this iconic musical, the Merage JCC JStage youth theatre program not only celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Jewish community but also sends a powerful message of resilience and hope to audiences of all backgrounds. In a time of uncertainty and division, the production serves as a beacon of unity, inviting community members to come together in celebration of shared values and humanity.

For many years, JStage has created a space for artistic development, providing a platform for hundreds of young individuals to explore and expand their creative potential. Through the medium of theatre, JStage instills invaluable life skills and values in its participants, shaping them into skilled performers and compassionate and resilient individuals.

Set against the backdrop of a changing world and shifting traditions, this beloved musical resonates deeply with themes of family, identity, and resilience. Under the guidance of experienced directors and mentors, the young cast members of JStage breathe new life into these timeless themes, infusing their performances with authenticity and emotion.

More than just a theatrical showcase, JStage's productions serve as a platform for personal growth and character development. Through collaborative rehearsals and shared experiences, participants learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, and dedication. They discover the power of their voices, both onstage and off, as they bring characters to life and communicate powerful messages to their audience. Also, the JStage staff knew the actors needed to learn more about Judaism. The Jewish Engagement Coordinator, Itai Armony shared,  “Teaching about the persecution of Jews to a group of children is never an easy task, but our JStage kids handled this serious subject with the utmost level of maturity.”  He said, “We were able to have a deep conversation which is not only pertinent to the story of Russian Jews in the early 1900s, but to all Jews today.”

In essence, JStage's production of Fiddler on the Roof is more than just a showcase of talent; it is a celebration of the human spirit and the transformative power of the arts. Through their dedication to artistic excellence and the fostering of young talent, JStage continues to inspire and enrich the lives of countless individuals within our community, laying the foundation for a brighter and more vibrant future.
