Empowering the Next Generation: Young Philanthropists at the Merage JCC
What does it mean to make a real difference? For local teens in grades 9–12, Young Philanthropists offers the chance to find out firsthand. This transformative program empowers students to explore what it means to give back, lead with purpose, and make meaningful change both locally and globally.
Over the course of four interactive sessions, participants dive into the world of charitable giving and social impact. They learn the principles of effective philanthropy, visit nonprofit agencies across Orange County, and engage directly with leaders from national and international organizations. Through these experiences, teens gain an inside look at how community programs, advocacy groups, and humanitarian efforts operate and how they can play a role in shaping a better future.
Rooted in the Jewish value of tikkun olam (repairing the world), Young Philanthropists reflects the very heart of who we are at the Merage JCC. Giving back, building community, and making a positive impact are at the core of our mission and everything we believe in. This program not only teaches generosity; it embodies it.
Each session combines learning, hands-on projects, and inspiring conversations that help participants connect their values to action. The program culminates in a dynamic group decision-making process where teens determine how to allocate real funds to causes that reflect their priorities and passions. The discussion is lively, thoughtful, and empowering, as students experience the true impact of giving together.
Beyond the fulfillment of helping others, Young Philanthropists offers tangible benefits: participants can earn up to 12 hours of community service, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and enhance their college resumes, all while having fun and connecting with Jewish teens from across Orange County.
If you’re ready to learn, lead, and make a lasting impact, apply today for Young Philanthropists. Together, we can repair the world—one act of giving at a time.
