Eva, a beautiful seamstress, moves with her daughter to a neighborhood of Holocaust survivors in 1956. Shalom Gottlieb, a former partisan leader and current soda factory foreman, falls for Eva, who offers him a chance at happiness and a life filled with beauty and laughter. But rumors of Eva’s past as a Kapo at Auschwitz shake the community. Shalom’s choice to be with Eva now means not only betraying his family, but also betraying his fellow partisans and his duty to uncover her secret.
Nominated for three Israeli Academy Awards, the film explores themes of post-war trauma, secrets, and the choices survivors made in the early years of the Israeli state and was inspired by the real-life story of Tadmor’s mother and his maternal grandparents.
