Job Title: Sunrise Day Camp Unit Head

POSITION PURPOSE:
To be responsible for the emotional, social and recreational experiences of a specific age group of campers; provide ongoing training, supervision and guidance to the assigned unit staff; and work closely with other administrative staff to provide an optimal camper experience for that specific unit group and the camp as a whole.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative
- Attend pre-camp administrative staff meetings
- Work with the Camp Director to recruit, supervise and motivate staff
- Prior to start of camp, work with Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director to develop on-site schedules for Unit to include a whole summer calendar, weekly calendars with themes, regular communications with families, etc. Develop appropriate schedules, calendars, events, etc. with Assistant Camp Director
- Communicate effectively with parents and campers
- Plan and implement staff orientations
- Plan and implement camper/parent orientation
- Confirm logistics for entertainment/transportation (if necessary) with Assistant Camp Director
- Order needed program supplies with the approval of the Camp Director or his/her designee
- Assist Camp Director in carrying out special projects
- Return parent phone calls on a daily basis
- Maintain Unit binder to include Medical Forms, Transportation Forms, etc.
- Communicate on a daily basis with Camp Director and/or Assistant Camp Director/Program Director on issues specific to the unit or the camp in general
- Attend administrative staff meetings before and during the camp season as scheduled
General
- Work with groups of campers, serving as their Unit leader
- Guide the Unit in a variety of positive, creative socially beneficial camp experiences
- Work to develop a team feeling with the assigned Unit and the camp as a whole
- Know the whereabouts of the unit’s campers at all times
- Set a good example for all campers and staff
- Be aware of the daily health of each assigned camper
- Be safety and health conscious regarding activities and camper participation
- Enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
- Identify and meet campers’ and staff’s needs as appropriate

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
Unit Head positions commonly involve a mixture of administrative work and being with the children for the full length of the camp day. Unit Heads are expected to be at camp for morning meetings as early as 7 AM, and are expected to stay at camp as late as 4:30 PM. There is typically a brief level of work needed some nights after camp as well.
DECISION MAKING
My position requires me to work from detailed instructions, decisions are made occasionally.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Type of supervision: General Supervision
Unit Heads are the leaders of a camper unit and are responsible for the organization, supervision, and management of up to 30 campers and 5 staff members. This position requires a high level of organization, decision-making ability, and resiliency in order to keep the summer running smoothly for their unit.
Typical Assignments:
Assignments are both task-oriented and objective-oriented. Follows established procedures for routine work; receives specific instruction or non-routine problems.
Review of Work:
Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy in meeting objectives.
Typical Job Level:
Intermediate-level professional, technical and administrative positions and 1st level supervisors.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Must complete a live scan, a staff medical form and obtain require immunization records or have an immunization exemption form signed by your designated provider
- Assist Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director in setting tone of camp (i.e. staff meetings, enthusiasm)
- Be in charge of First Aid and emergency procedures when off-site
- Assist camp nurse whenever necessary
- Assist Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director in carrying out emergency procedures when necessary
- Track and record both camper and staff attendance and program participation
- Evaluate staff (verbal and written, mid-summer and end of summer) and make recommendations for improvement if needed.
- Camp is from June 16 - August 1 (Monday-Friday) and training begins prior to camp on June 9. This is a great opportunity for anyone going into education, social work, psychology, child life, or healthcare.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Camp or related recreation experience (coaching, team-building, etc.).
Experience working with children of all ages.
The minimum amount of formal or informal education required to successfully perform the position is education or job knowledge equivalent to college or university undergraduate education, and the minimum amount of relevant work experience required to successfully perform it, is at least one (1) to two (2) years.

Sunrise Day Camp Program Coordinator

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for creating, implementing, and supervising the programs and activities at Sunrise Day Camp. This role requires close collaboration with the Camp Director, Assistant Director, logistics team, and other staff to ensure a fun, engaging, and safe environment for all campers.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Development & Planning:
- Develop on-site camp program calendars, schedules and events.
- Work with the Camp Director and Assistant Director to design and maintain camp programs for campers, families, and staff.
- Manage daily schedules, event calendars, and activity plans for various age groups.
- Create a pre-designed program with high and low energy activities throughout the day according to the needs of the campers.
- Confirm logistics for special events and entertainment.
Staff Coordination & Support:
- Supervise counselors, unit heads, specialists, and logistics staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Assist in staff training, orientation, and appreciation events.
- Provide support with behavioral or special needs issues.
Parent & Community Engagement:
- Assist with parent communication and serve as a point of contact for inquiries.
- Lead family and donor tours when needed.
- Contribute to the Parent Newsletter.
Operational Support:
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of camp operations.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed for program activities and equipment.
- Maintain group lists and ensure proper staff-to-camper ratios.
- Track inventory and ensure all necessary materials are available.
- Ensure that all program services vendors submit any necessary documents including W-9’s, insurance information, health screening, etc.
Special Programming:
- Organize and implement special events, Late Night Programming, and themed days.
- Oversee the execution of rainy-day activities and ensure all forms are up-to-date.
Pre-Camp Opening Responsibilities:
- Create camper groups based on age, gender, and special needs, ensuring a balanced mix of counselors, paying attention to 1:1 needs.
- Develop camp schedules, including a First Day plan and rainy-day activities.
- Working with Camp Director to assign Specialists for activities or groups.
- Coordinate Unit Head and Staff Orientations.
Summer Responsibilities:
- Monitor staff and camper participation, ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
- Oversee specialist-led activities and provide backup when needed.
- Maintain safety standards for all equipment and activities.
- This position involves regular cleaning and sanitizing of both the campsite and program equipment to maintain a safe and hygienic environment
- Respond to programming and behavioral issues promptly.
- Coordinate with swim staff to assign campers to appropriate swim groups.
- Run morning & afternoon round-up to engage the campers.

Group Fitness Instructor
Leads and coordinates individual or group adult fitness/physical training sessions for a specified health and fitness program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans and leads exercise/activity sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas.
- Sets up and monitors class equipment, and ensures its return in serviceable condition.
- Advises participants on program and class procedures and policies, as appropriate.
- Distributes handouts and/or class evaluations, if appropriate, and answers questions from participants after each session; assists in performing follow-up and communication with participants, as required.

Group Cycling Instructor
DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement and lead Group Cycling classes.
- Orient, motivate and safely instruct members in our Group Cycling classes

Instructors are responsible for implementing a curriculum in each lesson with an individual plan for swim instruction that will enable them to live a lifetime of safety in and around the water. Instructors will maintain the highest quality integrity, safety and values in every interaction, with children, parents and staff members.

The Swim Instructor position requires a person to have the passion to invest the time to teach safety and confidence in the water. Though swim experience is a plus, general teaching experience and the right personality with a positive attitude are ALL welcome to apply. Training provided.
Instructors will:
- Report to work 15 minutes prior to each shift
- Be in uniform (Staff shirt) when entering the JCC building
- Answer basic emails/call back about booking lessons
- Set up teaching areas
- Clean and maintain pool areas before and after each shift
- Be knowledgeable in regards to parent questions regarding progression and personal plan curriculum
- Contact parents with updates on a consistent basis
Customer Service:
- Greet members when they come into the aquatic center
- Communicate effectively with potential and existing customers
- Build relationships with families and get to know their names and their children’s names
- Handle customer complaints gracefully with a win/win outcome
- Work together with staff to report any complaints.
- Lead by example for other staff members by using the customer-focused principle in every customer interaction

Swimmer Development Coach Specialist
The Merage Jewish Community Center of Orange County in Irvine, Ca is seeking a Specialist for the JCC Waves Swimming Team and Aquatics Department.
Duties involve pioneering swimmer development from swim lessons to the JCC Waves swim team. This bridge into competitive swimming will involve skill recognition from observing tryouts/lessons and the identifying of families that will remain committed to the discipline of swimming. Continuing to foster that talent into the 10 yr old and younger Competition group. Developing a strong base of swimmers for years to come.
Responsibilities include:
- Has a significant role in the teaching, modifying and executing JCC Waves 9 and under age group program development. This will have a team wide impact.
- Has a commitment to moving the “best” candidates from lessons to team. A systematic process that will become standard.
- Primary coach for the Splash and assists the Fitness I group. Create a roadmap for swimmers to move into the Champion I group.
- Create and execute daily workouts, including setting up the pool for practices, for Splash and Fitness I.
- Additional collaboration with other groups as needed including substitute coaching a group from time to time.
- Provide a positive, encouraging, and challenging atmosphere in which all swimmers, regardless of ability, may improve their skills.
- Treat all swimmers with equal care and concern, regardless of ability.
- Attend additional practices during summer months or holidays in the am hours.
- Create a competitive environment in which the swimmers in Splash and Fitness I groups have a large avenue to succeed. Stroke acquisition and training utilization is a priority.
- Input/enter, update and track swim meet entries, results, and time improvements for Splash and Fitness I through the Team Unify system.
- Develop goal setting with the swimmers in the fall and again in the spring.
- Maintain a positive and supportive attitude toward the other members of the coaching staff, swimmers of all ability and parents.
- Clock in hours in the ADP system.
- Create content for the JCC Waves using email, social media and team web site.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Social Media
- Must be organized, possess good customer service, communication skills (parents & swimmers) and be dedicated to working for the Aquatic Community at the JCC.
Compensation includes:
- Part Time – 16 hours per week at $18.00
- Swim meet sessions for 10 & under up to 4 meet sessions per month.
- As needed swim meet sessions during championship meets or as substitute for another coach.
- Continuing education, including ASCA, NFHS, ISCA, etc. classes, paid for. (Membership to associations not included)
- Occasional professional clinics admission paid for. Travel cost not included unless budgeted from the prior year.
