JCC Waves swim coach Gina Duncan is a true All-Star
Training a swim team of 230 young athletes to compete against the largest swim teams in California is no easy task, but for JCC Waves swim coach Gina Duncan, no challenge is too big for her to tackle.
This passionate swim coach left her heart on the pool deck at every meet, leading to her selection as one of five to coach the USA Swimming 2014 Western Zone Select Camp in Tempe, Arizona. She was chosen out of thousands of coaches across America for her skill and ability to motivate swimmers to work their hardest.
Duncan was thrilled to receive this honor because it gave her the opportunity to work with 56 of the most elite 13 and 14-year-old swimmers in the Western United States. “It meant so much to me because I got the chance to inspire a whole new group of young competitors,” she said.
Duncan believes that there is no better feeling than reminding talented swimmers of the potential they possess.
“I love it when I’ve just finished a pep talk and I look around at the faces of my swimmers and see that spark in their eyes. That’s when I know that they’ve started to believe in themselves as much as I believe in them. It’s those moments that I love being a coach,” said Duncan.
Her fellow JCC Waves coaches agree that Duncan’s love of swimming inspires her swimmers and creates in them a lifelong passion for the sport. Wherever her career as a swim coach and motivator may take her, Duncan will always have the love and support of her JCC Waves family.
