Shehecheyanu

Shehecheyanu: Blessings for Beginnings

The blessing is traditionally spoken during moments of joy and renewal, typically categorized into three distinct types of occasions:

  • Holidays & Mitzvot: On the first night of major annual festivals such as Hanukkah (menorah lighting), Sukkot (entering the Sukkah), Passover (the Seder), Rosh Hashanah, and Shavuot.
  • Life Milestones: During celebrations like weddings, baby namings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, or graduations.
  • New Experiences & Possessions: When eating a seasonal fruit for the first time in its season, wearing new clothes, or acquiring a significant item like a new home or vehicle
